Budget Homelab: My First Build Using Forgotten Gear
When looking at content on homelabbing, you might get the impression that it is just an expensive hobby. This is completely false. As a broke college student, I started with items that I had lying aroud and so can you. So, What Could I Use? Obviously, I could only use what I had on hand and what I could get for cheap if not free : Old desktop that I got for free in college, though it needed some upgrade. Gaming laptop that I broke years ago and that I barely touched since. Mini PCs that I saved from going to the landfill at my job. You too probably have an old or broken laptop or PC around. If so, you might just have what you need to start a homelab as long as it has enough CPU resources, memory and drives. Old Desktops I refurbished and upgraded my old (2011) Dell Optiplex 390 by doing a deep cleaning of all the components and the case using an air blower and isopropyl alcohol.
